Insinyur Medis, Dr. Ryan Stone (Sandra Bullock) pergi dengan space shuttle untuk misi luar angkasa pertamanya , ditemani Matt Kowalsky (George Clooney) yang justru sedang memimpin ekspedisi terakhirnya. Sebuah puing dari satelit menabrak space shuttle, Explorer, dan membuatnya rusak parah. Dr. Stone dan Kowalsky harus bertahan di ruang dengan udara terbatas. Medical engineer Dr. Ryan Stone (Sandra Bullock) is on her first Space Shuttle mission accompanied by veteran astronaut Matt Kowalsky (George Clooney), who is commanding his final expedition. A debris from a satellite crashes into the space shuttle Explorer, leaving it mostly destroyed, and stranding them in space with limited air. Without means of communication with Earth, they must cooperate to survive.
